🏺 A pottery shard, a metal object, traces of an ancient settlement—to some, these are merely items found in the ground. To archaeologists, however, they are clues about the people who lived here long before us.
Amidst the Velykyi Luh, researchers are piecing this history together step by step: how local communities lived, what they did, and what they left behind.
Archaeology allows us not only to glimpse into the past but also to better understand the place where we live today. For the history of this land is not something distant; it is part of the history of Zaporizhzhia—and, by extension, our own.

The expedition is taking place within the framework of the city program to foster Ukrainian national and civic identity in Zaporizhzhia up to 2030. It is being jointly implemented by the Zaporizhzhia City Council’s departments of Education and Science, Culture and Tourism, and Veterans' Policy.
