On August 24, Ukraine’s Independence Day, we are unveiling a commemorative plaque on the façade of the Vie Theatre-Laboratory on Khortytsia in honor of Artur "Pykha" Pyshnyi — a defender of Ukraine, an artist, and our colleague.
Artur was born and raised in Zaporizhzhia. He was involved in music from childhood, and in his youth, he developed a passion for breakdancing, graffiti, and electronic music. He was a co-founder of the "Kapela" creative collective and organized musical events and concerts. In 2012, he joined the Vie Theatre-Laboratory on Khortytsia. There, he participated in plays, concerts, and artistic events, and co-created the movement-based performance "From Silence" ("Z Tyshi"). Later, he worked in Kyiv theaters as a lighting and music specialist.
In 2023, Artur voluntarily joined the Azov Regiment. He subsequently became the chief sergeant of a ground-based unmanned systems platoon. On November 5, he lost his life in Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region, while carrying out a combat mission. He is survived by his wife, Yaryna, and two sons, Mark and Lev.
Today, his name returns here—to the place where a part of his life was dedicated to art. The memorial plaque on the theater’s façade serves as a testament that the memory of Artur remains part of this space and our shared history.
We thank the Veterans’ Art Center @veterans_art_center for their support in installing the memorial plaque and for the opportunity to preserve the memory of our defenders together. We thank Nataliia Tseliuba @radio_surrealism for the mosaic design.
On Independence Day, it is especially important to remember those thanks to whom Ukraine remains free.
❤️Artur Pyshnyi. We remember.
