Does a "just" peace cost 5 territories?

Поділитись
What do the people of Zaporizhzhia think about this?

For Witkoff – these negotiations are “convincing.”
For putin – it’s a “lasting peace.”

For Ukraine – it’s injustice and the recognition of an aggressor.

On April 11, U.S. Presidential envoy Steve Witkoff met with russian president-aggressor vladimir putin and stated that they had a “convincing” meeting. He noted that the agreement on Ukraine would involve “five territories.”

He did not specify which territories, but it’s safe to assume they refer to those Russia repeatedly claims as its own: since 2014, the aggressor state has insisted that its seizure of parts of Ukraine – including Crimea, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Luhansk, and Donetsk regions – must be recognized in any agreement.

According to putin, this would supposedly ensure a “lasting peace.”

For us, residents of Zaporizhzhia – a region where over 70% of the territory is currently under occupation – hearing this is shocking, painful, and unjust.

This is a dangerous narrative. The world must stand against the aggressor, not encourage it.

russia claims to have held so-called “referendums” in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. In reality, these actions were carried out under coercion, with the involvement of Russian armed forces, which entirely rules out the possibility of free and fair expression of will.

To speak of any legal validity of these “referendums” in the context of international law is absurd. These were marked by widespread falsifications, coercion, intimidation, abductions, torture, and psychological pressure on the local population.
Ukraine, the European Union, the United Nations, and the majority of the international community have recognized these pseudo-referendums as illegal and void of any legal effect.

These are our people and our land, not a “profitable deal” between selected individuals. We call on the world to support Ukraine and recognize russia as an aggressor state. We urge you to help us win and protect our children.
