About the place

The monument to the victims of the Holodomor was installed on the main street of Zaporizhzhia in November 2007. It honors the memory of millions of Ukrainians who perished during the artificial famine of 1921-1922 and 1932-1933.

Stalin's regime led to mass shootings, arrests, and the "five ears of grain" law, which caused a terrible famine that resulted in the deaths of eight million Ukrainians in 1921-1922 and approximately four million in 1932-1933.

The monument consists of a 6-meter white marble cross on a black granite obelisk. Next to it is a figure of a grieving mother holding a wheat ear in her hand. The expression on her face screams about the terrible tragedy and grief over the loss of children.

The author of the sculptural composition is the talented Kharkiv sculptor Seyfaddin Gurbanov Ali oglu.
