For decades, Velikiy Luh remained hidden under the waters of the Kakhovske Reservoir. Along with it, dozens of villages and lands that preserved the memory of the five Zaporozhian Sichs were flooded. This is how the soviet authorities tried to erase part of Ukrainian history.
After the explosion of the Kakhovska HPP by the russian occupiers, this territory was reopened. Despite the tragedy, nature began to return what had remained invisible for decades. Velikiy Luh is coming to life again.
The photo exhibition of Zaporizhzhia photographer and researcher Volodymyr Fisun @lug_sich is a visual testimony of this historical process. Through the lens of the camera, the author captures the revival of the landscape, the return of historical memory and the unique moment when nature and history meet again.
