Our grandfathers told us that on the island of Khortytsia there were many old-fashioned oak giants, and among them was one that was distinguished by its power. The Cossacks called it "Sacred Red Oak". Its trunk was about 6 meters around and it was more than 500 years old.
From the history of Zaporizhzhia it is known that until 1921 the city was named Alexander after the Alexander Fortress, which was laid in 1770, in honour of General Field Marshal Oleksandr Golitsyn.
In ancient times on the Zaporizhzhia lands lived glorious warriors, who defended the land from invaders and attackers - the Cossacks. Among the Cossacks there were special ones, who had supernatural strength and special abilities. Cossack warlocks (kharakternyks) are descendants of ancient Magians.
Archaeological finds indicate that on the Black Rock in the north of Khortytsia that at the mouth of the Dnieper, the Grand Prince of Kievan Rus Sviatoslav Igorovych was killed while he was returning from the campaign in 972. This ruler was known for his courage, good luck and knightly soul, but also for the fact that, going to the enemy, he warned him about it in the words "I'm coming to you!”.
