Forms of Presence in Limbo. Opening of the Exhibition by Volodymyr Gulich @artzebs and Anastasia Loyko @nastya.loyko

June 20, 14:00
Zaporizhzhya Contemporary Art Center BIRUCHIY art-centre (📍 145 Sobornyi Ave.)

The project explores the experience of living in conditions of prolonged uncertainty. The war destroyed the usual sense of stability and integrity, breaking reality into separate fragments of experience, memory and emotions. In this context, "limbo" appears not as stagnation or inaction, but as a space between the past and the future, where a person continues to live, adapt and seek new points of support.

For Zaporizhia, this state is especially recognizable. The city has existed for several years between ordinary life and war, between constant threat and the need to move on. Here, the question of presence is not abstract - it concerns the daily experience of people who stay, work, create and build the future despite uncertainty.

The exhibition combines paintings and photographs by Volodymyr Gulich. This is not a documentary story about war and not a direct statement about violence. Instead, the artist captures the inner dynamics of a person, their ability to withstand instability and remain open to change.

💭 “Zaporizhzhia for me is not a context or a theme, but a superphysical ground. This is a place where the question of presence is not abstract, but tactilely focused on self-existence and self-realization. Here you cannot look from afar - you can only be inside the process,” says Volodymyr Gulich

We do not offer ready-made answers or unambiguous interpretations. Instead, we strive for this project to become part of the “Zaporizhzhia Circle” - a space of trust and coexistence, where there is a place for different experiences and states. A space in which you can ask questions, live the complexity of the present, and look for your own ways of interacting with the world.

In this project, art does not teach or offer universal solutions. It is simply present nearby, returning to people the right to feel, think and withstand the tension of time.
