There are events whose significance is revealed not in a single moment, but over centuries. We see them in cities that preserve their history. In words passed down from generation to generation. In traditions that evolve but never disappear. In the choice of people to remain true to themselves despite every challenge. The Baptism of Kyivan Rus was one of those defining moments. It shaped the civilizational path of our lands, influenced our culture, education, literacy, and statehood. More than a thousand years later, that choice continues to live on in Ukrainian culture and our historical memory. For the Zaporizhzhia region, this continuity is especially meaningful. Here, history does not begin with the Cossacks—it reaches much deeper. That is why Zaporizhzhia is not only a witness to Ukrainian history, but also its natural continuation. Today, as Ukraine once again fights for the right to determine its own future, it is especially important to remember that our identity is shaped not only by the events of today. It was forged over centuries, and it is this historical memory that gives us the strength to endure.
On the Day of the Baptism of Kyivan Rus–Ukraine, we remember more than the past.
We remember the path that we continue to walk today. 🇺🇦
