“Photography. Before and After” — a lecture about photography as a way to capture a historical moment while experiencing it at the same time.
📌 August 16, 12:00
Zaporizhzhia BIRUCHIY art-centre (📍Sobornyi Ave., 145)
How has the role of photography changed throughout different historical periods? What happens to a photographer when history stops being something that happens somewhere and sometime else and becomes reality right in front of the lens? And how does a major historical event change not only what we photograph, but also how and why we do it?
Through the historical context of photography, we will explore its journey from a way of preserving a moment to a tool for witnessing, remembering, and making sense of time.
A separate focus of the lecture will be the personal and creative transformation of Viera Blansh @vera_blansh: what kind of photographer and artist she was before the full-scale invasion and who she became after it began. How her perspective, subjects, protagonists, and sense of responsibility for the captured moment have changed.
This is a conversation about the point where a photographer’s personal perspective meets great history. About moments that cannot be postponed: “This is a historical moment — it needs to be documented.”
