Construction of a new passenger terminal at Zaporizhzhia International Airport is completed. Today, Mayor Volodymyr Buryak accepted the completed construction works, contractors reported on the work done.

The construction of the new passenger terminal of the Zaporizhzhia airport began in 2017 December . Mayor Volodymyr Buryak kept working on constant personal control. At the moment, the contractor has already completed the construction works. Now the terminal should be put into operation in 2 - 2.5 months. Such a task was set today by the mayor Vladimir Buryak.

- In 2 years we have built a new passenger terminal of the airport. I would say that this is a large-scale project not only in Zaporizhzhia but throughout Ukraine. It is nice that it happened in Zaporizhzhia, - said Vladimir Buryak.

The mayor emphasized that this was made possible by the joint efforts of the Zaporizhzhia community, since the money was allocated from the city budget. The new terminal will improve the quality of passenger service.

The area of the new terminal is more than 12 thousand square meters. It will be able to serve 400 passengers per hour. Potentially, their number can be increased to 500. Note that the terminal has a modern design and is equipped with modern equipment.

Today, the mayor made sure that luggage equipment, passenger check-ins and more were already installed. The flight timetable was also tested. It has already been mounted.

- It takes at least 2 months to put the terminal into operation. I expect that as early as mid-March, passengers can start using it. Why March? Because in spring we are expected to open additional flights, increase the number of passengers, - said Vladimir Buryak.

According to the results of 2019, Zaporizhzhia International Airport will serve more than 400 thousand passengers. The total figure may exceed 415 thousand. However, the airport management is convinced that this is only the beginning. The capabilities of the new terminal, which is due to open in March, will greatly increase performance.

Mayor Vladimir Buryak reminded that new flights will be opened next year. We will remind that this year new directions were added to the existing directions. A regular flight to Barcelona was opened, flights to Sharjah (UAE), Tel Aviv, a budget flight to Kiev by Ukrainian low-cost SkyUp. In line in 2020 - Italy, Greece, Georgia, Cyprus, Bulgaria. The well-known low-cost WizzAir from March 2020 will launch flights to Hungary, Austria, Lithuania, Poland. An important achievement is that the passengers of the Zaporizhzhia airport will be able to use the budget flights to Europe.

The mayor stressed that the development of the infrastructure of the Zaporizhzhyia airport will continue next year. This is important, as the number of passengers is expected to increase further. It should be emphasized that the services of Zaporizhzhia International Airport are used not only by residents of Zaporizhzhia, but also by residents of neighboring cities and regions. In particular, the Dnieper, Donetsk region. - In 2019, the number of passengers will be more than 415 thousand. The final figures will be known later. Given the opening of additional flights next year, the number of passengers can reach 700 thousand, - said Vladimir Buryak.
