Temperatures exceeding 35°C are forecast for Zaporizhzhia every day this week.
According to the latest The Lancet Countdown's report, extreme heat takes, on average, one human life every minute worldwide. This is, therefore, no longer a matter of comfort, but one of health and survival.
In hot weather, we lose not only water but also electrolytes — minerals essential for the proper functioning of the heart, muscles, and nervous system.
So here we have gathered six tips that really work:
1️⃣ Drink enough water. Pay attention to your thirst and the color of your urine. If you sweat heavily, choose mineral water or add some salty foods to your diet. Also, drink an extra glass of water after having coffee.
2️⃣ Do not quench your thirst with sugary carbonated drinks. They can actually make you even more thirsty.
3️⃣ Choose light meals. Vegetables, greens, berries, fruits, legumes, and cold soups will help you tolerate the heat better. It is best to save heavy dishes for the evening.
4️⃣ Try to get enough sleep. Despite difficult circumstances, good amount of sleep helps your body to cope better with the heat.
5️⃣ Cool your head and neck. A wet cloth or towel will help to dissipate heat more quickly.
6️⃣ Take a cool shower. Water that is too cold can cause blood vessels to constrict and interfere the body's cooling process.
