About the place

Monument to Sviatoslav the Brave - a 5-meter bronze monument on a granite pedestal was unveiled on October 15, 2005 next to the Cascade of fountains Rainbow in Voznesenivskyi Park at one of the possible places where the prince died in 972.

In his right hand, Sviatoslav the Brave holds a raised sword with its point pointed down. The whole view of the prince vividly illustrates his determination and life.

Sviatoslav the Brave (Sviatoslav Igorovych) - the son of Prince Igor and Princess Olga, father of Volodymyr the Great and grandfather of Yaroslav the Wise.

The illustrious commander, from 964 to 972, with his military campaigns, actually laid out the borders of the Kyiv state. He conquered the Vyatichi tribes, destroyed the Khazar state, defeated the North Caucasian tribes of yasov and kasog.

In the spring of  972, in an unequal battle with a sword in his hands, as befits a real warrior, he died at the Dnipro rapids.
