Verhnia Holova Rock (The Upper Head Rock) is located in the northern part of the Khortytsia Island. It offers a magnificent view of the Old Dnipro, an arched bridge, and the mighty industrial giant - the Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Station. Another historical monument, Stone Baba., is also installed on the edge of the rock.
There are three similar rocks on the island: Verhnia Holova, Serednia Holova (in the middle of the island) and Nyzhnia Holova (southern).
The largest cave on the island, Zmiyeva (Snake) Cave, is located in the rock. It is associated with many legends. According to one of them, a huge Snake lived in the cave, which flew out of the cave every night during the times of the Cossacks, illuminating the Dnipro with bright light. Access to the cave is difficult. During research, many interesting archaeological finds were found there.
According to one version, Verhnia Holova Rock is a possible location of the last battle and death of the great Kiev Prince Sviatoslav in 972.
