from the DniproGES dam to Verkhny Street, Zaporizhzhia
About the place
Social city is a residential area built in the 1930s in the modern city of Zaporizhzhia. The brightest objects include the heart of the industrial Zaporizhzhia - DniproHES, around which was built a wonderful urban development.
The Social city is a combination of a number of unique architectural monuments that are concentrated in a small area. Built with enormous scope and splendor, it is a grand building of rare specimens of nowadays 20-30s construction and magnificent examples of the post-war Stalin Empire.
The Social city was built at the same time with DniproHES and the Zaporizhzhia Metallurgical Complex. Construction was completed in 3 years, from 1929 to 1932.
The Social city was almost completely destroyed during the Second World War: in 1945 there were only 6 habitable homes left. In the postwar period it was rebuilt almost from scratch.
