Address
34, Motor-builders avenue, near the building of Shevchenko district state administration, Zaporizhzhia
The monument was erected according to the project of the sculptor V. Oliynyk to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko (1814-1861) - a genius Ukrainian poet and artist.
His works are an integral part of the history of Ukraine and especially Zaporizhzhia. After all, the poet mentioned Zaporizhzhia and the Zaporizhian Sich 70 times in his works, and the island of Khortytsia 5 times. In the summer of 1843, Taras Shevchenko visited Zaporizhzhia (then called Oleksandrivs'k) and the island of Khortytsia.
The bronze bust of Taras Shevchenko is raised on a prismatic pedestal made of gray polished granite. The author depicted the image of the artist as thoughtful, inspired, and full of deep emotions. The small scale of the square, the limited development on one side, and the transport highway on the other, somewhat determined the intimate character of the monument.
