The legendary Sacred Khortytsky Oak, one of the tallest oaks on Khortytsia, once grew near the Shantseva Balka.
It was described in the works of historians Dmytro Yavornytsky and Yakiv Novytsky. According to legends, a herd of horses could hide under the oak's crown. This place was sacred to the Zaporizhian Cossacks, where they met and discussed political, social, and military issues.
The famous oak of the Zaporizhian Cossacks had extraordinary sacred properties and could heal wounds overnight.
Today, a beautiful oak tree also grows in this same spot, which is around 100 years old. It could be a direct descendant of the same famous oak. It is one of the most mysterious sacred places on Khortytsia island.
