The Snake Cave is the largest cave on the entire island of Khortytsia. Its height reaches 5 meters and a depth of more than 4 meters, it is located in the northern part of Khortytsia under a rock called the Verhnia Holova .
In 1879, flint chips, shards of molded dishes and several animal bones were found in this cave, and even earlier - a saddle and armor of Cossack times. The name of the cave was given according to legend, according to which there lived a huge snake, which during the Cossacks flew out of the cave every night, illuminating the Dnipro with bright light. There are several such legends.
The cave itself captivates with its impregnability, and all these legends only add a certain charm and mystery to it, so it’s not easy to get into it, because the rock in which it is located looks like a sheer wall with a fast slope, going down the rock without special equipment and serious Climbing training is not possible. Unfortunately, it is impossible to get into the cave from the water along the same rapid rock due to the high height of the cave above the water.
